Growth: Mental Health App & Brand Identity

Summary

Growth is a habit-building app designed to help users manage daily tasks, track progress, and stay motivated on their personal growth journey. Since ADHD is relatively common, impacting around 5% of children and 2–4% of adults, yet often remaining underdiagnosed and undertreated the app was created with a special focus on supporting individuals who face these challenges.

This project was a personal initiative developed collaboratively with a team based in the UK.

Problems Identified

Young people with ADHD often encounter distinct challenges linked to difficulties with focus, organisation, time management, and emotional regulation. These struggles can significantly influence various aspects of their lives, from academic achievement and social connections to personal growth and overall well-being.

Solutions

Seeing daily or weekly progress motivates users and reinforces positive behaviour. Additionally, tracking accomplishments boosts self-esteem by providing tangible evidence of success. I designed customisable reminders and push notifications to set streaks or gamify users’ progress, adding an element of fun and boosting self-esteem.

  • To support individuals with ADHD by helping them build and maintain routines, improve time management and stay organised.

  • Consistent UI components and intuitive navigation contributed to Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO) by +11.6%.

  • The Growth team focused on improving product metrics through A/B testing and strategic marketing initiatives such as App Store Optimisation (ASO) and user acquisition (UA) campaigns.

Brand Identity & Visual Design

The bright and vibrant colour scheme sets the Growth app apart from competitors. By pairing contrasting colours like lime and lavender purple, I designed a playful mascot to guide and inspire users during onboarding. The app provides visual insights and daily activities to teach users about mood balance and neurotransmitters. Additionally, I created Light and Dark UI modes for iOS, enhancing the app's accessibility.

Critical reflection

During this project, I had the valuable opportunity to delve into the significance of visual hierarchy and strategic information placement. Understanding how to effectively showcase brand identity through design elements and the seamless incorporation of components was an important takeaway.

What did I learn?

One of the key takeaways from this project is that design is a way of communicating with and understanding users. Design is meaningful when it serves users’ wants and needs and it can be facilitated by listening to users. For example, the Light and dark UI modes are crucial for modern apps because they not only enhance usability and accessibility but reduce distraction, bring aesthetic appearance, support brand identity and align with system preferences.
